10 Video Game Bosses Who Killed Other Bosses
3. Isshin, The Sword Saint - Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice (2019)
Where Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice differs from the traditional FromSoftware formula is in having a less opaque and more linear storyline. This allows for a number of important characters to make multiple story-vital appearances - and this includes bosses you've previously defeated.
Lord Genichiro Ashina is one such boss that Wolf must fight three times over the course of the game, seemingly making him the main antagonist of Shadows Die Twice. Poetically, where you finally put an end to him is the very place you first encounter him at the beginning of the game; an encounter that costs Wolf his arm.
In this fight, Genichiro wields the black Mortal Blade, the twin of the red Mortal Blade that Wolf holds. Once he is defeated, he slits his own throat with the blade, which would've served to kill him on its own had an entire second body not then CLAWED its way out of the wound!
Isshin Ashina, the legendary warrior of old, has returned to exact his grandson's vengeance.
And thus, you have the true final boss of the game. All through the story, you're told how much of a fearsome fighter Isshin was in his prime, and before you even lock blades with him, seeing him writhe his way out of his own descendant should give you a pretty good idea just who you're fighting here.
