1. Zoe - Resident Evil VII
Resident Evil: Biohazard kicks off with players being introduced to protagonist Ethan Winters, who is shown driving to Louisana after receiving a call from his wife, Mia. Mia has been missing for three years, and her message leads Ethan to a derelict estate that has been infected by a biological weapon spilt across the area.
Zoe is introduced as the youngest member of the Baker family living in the estate, and she routinely gets in touch with players to offer assistance.
Near the end of the main storyline though, players will escape the house and be presented with the option of giving one remaining serum to either Mia or Zoe. Whichever one players choose will be cured and depart the house with Ethan, leaving the other to their fate.
Your loving wife that has summoned you here and been your main focus throughout the entire campaign, or the wise-cracking daughter of the cannibal family that just put you through hell?
Tough choice, that one.
What's more, Capcom even go out of their way to lament players who choose Zoe that they've made a bad error. Picking Mia will eventually see the couple escape the estate, with Zoe saved by her uncle Joe in what is the game's canonical ending.
However, picking Zoe will see the youngest Baker sibling killed a minute or so after hopping on the boat with Ethan, with Mia also dying later on in the tanker ship.
