Since Mother 3 was only officially released in Japan, in order for you to play the thing in the first place you either need to learn Japanese, already know Japanese, or otherwise find a translated port.

All three of these routes require a decent level of effort, so it's safe to say if you're playing Mother 3, it's because you're already pretty invested in the franchise.

Which means it should feel like a bolt clean to the heart when your final fight with the "Masked Man" reveals him to be Lucas' brother Claus. This is followed by a literal bolt to the heart, as Claus uses a lightning attack aimed at Lucas' Franklin Badge, purposefully firing it where it will be deflected in order to kill himself. With the control Porky has over him, this suicide-by-proxy is the only way he can stop his own onslaught.

After telling Lucas and their father that he's glad he got to be with his family one last time, Claus "goes to be with mother" and dies.

Interestingly, the ending was initially going to be made even darker, which seems almost impossible when you think about the assorted suffering this one contains.
