10 Video Game Enemies That Were Totally Out Of Place
1. The Cruelcumber - Dragon Quest
Cucumbers are an acquired taste on people's plates, let alone in a video game.
And so, we have The Cruelcumber, which made its inauspicious debut in Dragon Quest IX and has appeared in each mainline game since.
The Cruelcumber is exactly what it sounds like: a bipedal, sentient, spear-wielding vegetable with two creepily piercing eyes and a tongue that hangs out gormlessly at all times.
To make matters even stranger, they can't even die with dignity: upon being defeated, the Cruelcumbers will fall on their backs, causing their spears to fly into the air and fatally impale them. It's hilarious enough to be just a little bit sad, but mostly still hilarious.
RPGs aren't exactly averse to offering up sentient vegetables and plant life, but even so, there's little design logic in a Dragon Quest game having a walking, talking, clumsy-ass cucumber. Awesome name, though.
