10 Video Game Franchises That Need To Die
3. Mass Effect
Mass Effect: Andromeda wasn't a bad game, but it wasn't good enough to live up to the expectations placed on it. The writing and polish of the previous games had vanished like Ryder dropping through the floor of the Tempest.
But more than the well-crafted scripting or the compelling characters was the heart of the series. It was incredibly refreshing to see something other than the depressing destruction of the original series. Mass Effect: Andromeda clearly wanted to do something new, and it tried extremely hard to do that.
The new characters were fun, but they couldn't step out of the long shadows cast by Shepard and his misfits. The only major improvement to the series was the combat, but it was to the detriment of the plot and, infamously, the animations.
With most of BioWare's efforts seemingly focussed on Anthem and the next instalment of the Dragon Age series, it's unlikely that a sequel could achieve the success needed to bring this franchise back from the brink of death.
