10 Video Game Movies That Could Genuinely Work
9. Bloodborne
You might be asking why Bloodborne is a better candidate for adaptation that Dark Souls. And that rests on one thing. Bloodborne is far more visual, whereas the awe of Dark Souls is untangling the world that you are thrust into. It very rarely has those moments of pure and unadulterated body horror that Bloodborne has.
Translating that into a movie would be difficult, but it could work. Instead of having the main characters be all-powerful hunters, the movie would have to put the viewer in the shoes of someone far weaker, so as to make the hunters as grandiose as possible.
The story would have to be far more tight-knit, removing the world-changing aspects that the main game dealt with. It would have to be far more interwoven, perhaps focussing on a smaller great-one instead of intertwining the fates of different dimensions.
It would be largely visual, which is why it would lend itself well to an anime style movie; allowing for more inhuman design and making those grotesque moments even more so. But, it could work.
