10 Video Game Movies That Wouldn’t Definitely Suck
5. Hitman
Hitman may seem like a bad choice for this list, as the franchise has already been made into a film twice before (and failed both times), but there is still potential for it to become a good movie.
The story of a man raised from birth to become the most efficient assassin ever is an excellent choice for a movie adaptation. However, the first attempt made the plot too complicated with betrayals and double-crosses, and the second attempt, Agent 47, was just bad.
The latest game in the series was popular with fans, mainly for giving them a sandbox with multiple ways to take out targets, but also for simplifying the story. There was no unnecessarily-complex plot just trying to be clever; it was about a secret organisation attempting to manipulate world events, with a side plot of someone from Agent 47’s past keeping tracking him down. Expand on those plot points and you’ve got a solid story for a film – that’s all you need.
While it may be tricky to convince a studio to fund yet another Hitman film, a recent interview with Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn revealed that he was interested in making an R-Rated adaptation of the game. A top director making mature content with a simple plot is exactly what’s needed to finally make a successful Hitman movie.
