10 Video Game Plot Holes You Can't Ignore
5. Space Quest 3 - A Lot Of Effort Over A Free Whistle
Space Quest is a comedy graphic adventure series originally produced by the now-defunct Sierra Entertainment back in 1986. It was developed to compensate for the super-serious other productions by Sierra at the time such as the Kings’ Quest franchise and the film tie-in, The Black Cauldron.
In the second game in the series you are stranded on the planet Labion, after big bad, Vohaul, sends you there to become a slave worker in his mines. As punishment for playing the first game and ruining his plans, of course.
While you’re on Labion you find a mail box and send for a Labion Terror Beast Mating Whistle. This whistle becomes important to a puzzle later on - because of course it does in a classic adventure game.
Skip ahead to the third game in the series, literally because there’s time travel, and the main character, Roger Wilco, finds himself being hunted by a Terminator-like android out to kill him for having not paid for the whistle in Space Quest II, plus fees and interest.
The only problem with this hilarious event is that the whistle is advertised as free in the mail order form you submit in SQ2. How do you owe money for a free object?
