Out of all the protagonists of the Resident Evil franchise, Ethan Winters might be the biggest rando who had no reason to end up saving the world.

In his debut in Resident Evil VII, he's no one but a concerned boyfriend who goes searching for his girlfriend after she's gone missing.

The horror he experiences shortly after and all of the heroic deeds he has to achieve have nothing to do with his past, and unlike the other Resident Evil heroes, he has no prior training and no orders telling him what to do or what's going on.

In fact, even after he receives some military training thanks to Chris in Resident Evil: Village, he still has to go through another horror scenario just because it happened to him.

The man just can't catch a break in the insane world he lives in, but this actually makes him a somewhat relatable character.

Let's be honest: although we all would want to be like the Jills, Leons, and Chrises of the Resident Evil series, in reality we'd all be more like Ethan.

Scared, confused, and wondering what must've gone wrong in our lives to end up fighting sentient molds and tall vampire ladies.
