Few remakes are unleashed on the world and receive such positive reception as Resident Evil. First appearing in 2002 to a populace that couldn't believe Nintendo's GameCube could render such gorgeous realistic graphics, it finally appeared on PS4 and Xbox One in 2015.

Ostensibly re-skinning the 1997 original to create characters that didn't look like rejects from Final Fantasy VII's casting call, 2002 Resi also completely redesigned the iconic Spencer Mansion. Now we had supremely effective lighting that mimicked the silver screen Hammer horrors of old, new enemies in the form of the headshot-requiring Crimson Heads, and replaced audio to remove the hilariously cheesy, B-movie voice lines.

Whenever Resident Evil is referred to as a horror masterpiece, it's either the 1997 version viewed through rose-tinted glasses or this fully reworked, infinitely better remake.
