10 Video Game Remakes That Erase Their Iconic Originals

6. Ratchet & Clank

Ratchet and clank 2016
Insomniac

How to take a game from your past and bring it up to speed with a side of developer's commentary, Ratchet & Clank's 2016 redux is actually a sequel canonically, but contains the characters recanting the tales that got them there - resulting in you being able to play through the first game again.

Kinda genius.

Cut to all manner of record scratches as scenes and dialogue are chopped and changed on the fly, with Insomniac making a Ratchet & Clank game that plays like a perfect hybrid of the franchise's fluctuating flirtation with third-person shooter mechanics. As the games have routinely dove more into aping a full-on explosive focus and less platforming, now we have a control scheme where just holding the left trigger throws the camera behind you for headshots, and leaving it off lets you leap around place to place.

It's the perfect blend, and with some of the best graphics of the generation so far, a supremely polished title that far more people should play.
