10 Video Game Remasters NOBODY Asked For
4. The Last of Us Part II Remastered
This past January, barely three-and-a-half years after it originally released on PS4, The Last of Us Part II's remaster launched for PS5. Even accepting the overwhelming popularity of Naughty Dog's apocalyptic action sequel, many had to ask "really"?
The PS4 release was given a free 60fps patch for PS5 owners back in 2021, which was surely enough of an upgrade for the overwhelming majority of players.
But it's tough not to scoff at the notion of remastering a game that looked positively cutting-edge on PS4 back in 2020, and still looks absolutely incredible on that hardware today.
That Sony charged a $10 uplift rather than offering the upgrade for free didn't help much, either.
Though The Last of Us Part II Remastered was well-received by critics and did add new content such as a speed-run mode and audio commentary, there was also a common sentiment that, unless you're among the few who haven't yet played the game at all, the remaster was in no way "vital."
Naughty Dog could've probably avoided some very foreseeable blowback by just dubbing the remaster a "Game of the Year Edition" instead.
