10 Video Game Review Scores Fans Lost Their MINDS Over
5. James Stephanie Sterling Says Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Is Just "Good," Knocks Metascore Down To 97
Now to be fair to James Stephanie Sterling, she's never been one to quietly toe the line, and when she gave The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild a 7/10 review, she knew the blowback would be swift and volcanic.
Sterling's review complimented the vast open world but heavily criticised perceived "busy-work" gameplay throughout the experience, such as the game's notably divisive weapon durability mechanic.
Again proving how horribly skewed the 1-10 review scale is in the minds of so many gamers, Sterling was ferociously attacked online for her thoughts, surely unaided by her review knocking the game's Metacritic score down one point from 98 to 97. Ghastly.
Sterling's website was the subject of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks in retaliation for, of all things, being so bold as to suggest that the new Zelda game was good but significantly flawed.
That didn't stop her reviewing sequel Tears of the Kingdom earlier this year - as if it ever would - which she gave the very same 7/10 while acknowledging the baffling impact her original review had back in 2017.
