10 Video Game Underdogs That Defied All Odds

4. Kratos (God Of War)

A video game series that sees the player as a literal god doesn't seem like it can be argued from an underdog perspective. Kratos, once determining that the gods of Olympus are his true enemy, defies expectations, and slaughters his way towards revenge.

In the original God of War, Kratos, after being freed from his tenure as Ares' servant, takes it upon himself to murder his former master. After being tricked into killing his own family by Ares, Kratos is eventually able to kill him, before becoming the God of War himself.

He went through incredibly dangerous trials and tribulations, working alongside other Olympian gods, in order to attain redemption.

In future entries, Kratos then takes it upon himself to kill the entire pantheon of Olympian gods. It all came down to simple betrayal, where every god saw him as a threat, rather than a counterpart. The fact that Kratos, stripped of his godly powers, decided to combat every god present seems impossible in hindsight.

He ended up achieving this goal by the trilogy's end. Every monster, every famed Greek figure, and even death itself, could not stop the rage Kratos used to fuel his desire for revenge. Any normal character would've met their fate long ago.

Although his motivations for besting the odds may have changed in the Norse-based reboot, Kratos' conviction to survive remains as underdog-esque as ever.
