10 Video Game Villains Who Actually Killed The Hero

The singleplayer campaigns in Call of Duty games are really interesting, because you can tell that they're trying as hard as possible to make death feel like an important incident in one scene, while also chucking waves and waves of goons at the player for them to thoughtlessly mow down in the next.

The nuke scene in 2007's Modern Warfare tried to get you to feel the devastating impact that the explosion had on those who were caught in its midst, while Modern Warfare 2's No Russian airport massacre forced you to question the morality of your actions by allowing you to gun down innocent civilians.

This is also why the games aren't afraid to kill off heroic characters, with player-controlled soldiers like Paul Jackson, Soap, and - more relevant to this particular list - Yuri being offed at various points.

Yuri meets his maker in Modern Warfare 3 at the hands of Makarov - probably the most famous villain in the entire Call of Duty franchise - with our hero being brutally gunned down at point-blank range while trying to save Price's life.

It was a brave and selfless act, and even though he died for his troubles, Yuri was successful in saving Price, who was then able to kill Makarov in return, ending the villain's reign of terror for good.
