10 Video Game Weapons You Cheated To Get

1. Seitengrat - Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age

Final Fantasy XII’s rarest weapons fly in the face of the completionist nature of many RPG fans.

Seitengrat, a literally invisible bow, is part of a set of ultimate weapons added for the game’s Zodiac Age rerelease and is the most powerful tool in the game. All you need to do is open a chest on the game’s Sky Ferry… except that chest has a 1% chance of spawning, is invisible when it does and has a further 20% chance of including the weapon when it does appear.

With probabilities like that, it was almost like Square were begging players to cheat or find a way to confuse the game into rewarding them with Seitengrat… which is exactly what they did.

Obviously, Seitengrat’s likelihood to appear is all based on random number generator machines in the code which fans spent time studying. Simply make an autosave on the ferry and load a save at the start of the game. Here, one must continually heal themselves with a cure spell until three particular numbers appear in the right order to guarantee that the chest shows when reloading the previous autosave.

Then, of all things, it’s all about the timing of pushing the X button when a certain NPC reaches the top of the stairs for the fourth time.

It’s a bizarre few hoops to jump through but it sure as well beats gambling on the contents of an elusive, invisible chest.
