10 Video Games 90s Kids Never Forgot
4. Spyro The Dragon
The original PlayStation was never short of mascots, and one of the most enduring was Spyro The Dragon. A rival to Crash bandicoot at the time his success over the years was due in large part to the incredible first three games released on Sony's first console.
The first game, named after its eponymous hero, was a perfect blend of colourful characters, exciting environments, and mechanical richness that was woven through a difficulty curve that was perfect for its young target audience.
The game and its two sequels were remastered recently in the Spyro Reignited Trilogy and (re)playing them is a joy. The fantastic thing is that it feels identical to the original release with Spyro being as sprightly as ever but shiny under a new beautiful lick of paint.
The crux of this classic was the rewarding struggle to collect all the gems, eggs and other well hidden trinkets within the meticulously, brilliantly designed levels. Its almost a sin to not 100% at least the first game. It's a cutesy, memorable and rewarding platformer thats hard to forget.
