10 Video Games Banned Overseas For Ridiculous Reasons
2. Pokemon Go (Malaysia)
Remember the summer that Pokemon Go was released? We were all wandering the streets, almost getting hit by cars and trespassing onto private property. We were also all doing the same thing at the same time, helping each other to track down elusive Pokemon and take over gyms. It was probably the closest we'll ever come to world peace.
But The Islamic Consultative Committee In The Federal Territories Of Malaysia (it took me several tries to get all those words in the right order) saw something very different.
The Committee saw the game as something that "promoted the pursuit of power," likening the abilities of Pokemon to affirming the power of "certain" gods, and called for it to be banned within the country.
That ban turned out to be short-lived, as the Pokemon fans of Malasia collectively heard the Committee's words, all stood up, and said, "What on Earth are you talking about?" The ban was overturned by the Communications And Multimedia Ministry and the game released in Malaysia unhindered.
