10 Video Games Based On Horror Movies You've Completely Forgotten About

1. A Nightmare On Elm Street

There's a trend amongst many video games based on horror movies, and that's they have little to do with the story on which they are based. Mostly, you were just playing iconic killers and murdering kids for high scores.

However, one game bucked that trend with success, and it was none other than A Nightmare On Elm Street for the NES. Playing as an Elm Street teen, you're tasked with finding the bones of Freddy Krueger and disposing of them in the school's furnace, which is about as close to A Nightmare On Elm Street 3 (the best one) as you can get.

More importantly, unlike a few games on this list, it's actually fun to play. However, it could have been so very different. The original prototype of the game was going to have you play as Freddy, but thankfully cooler heads prevailed and they avoided the same indignity that Halloween and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre suffered back on the Atari.

This is one horror movie video game that deserves better than to be forgotten.
