10 Video Games Better Than The Movie They're Based On
1. Spider-Man 2 (PS2, Xbox, GameCube)
The peak of Sam Raimi's beloved Spidey trilogy, Spider-Man 2 remains a GOAT contender in the superhero film genre. Its video game adaptation holds a similar distinction, completely rewriting the rules of both superhero and open world games for years to come.
Activision's call to make New York an open-world setting for Peter Parker was inspired. Playing like an inverted GTA, the player explores New York at their own pace, preventing crimes wherever and whenever they want instead of causing them.
Immediately more immersive than any Spidey game before it, Spider-Man 2 cranks things up another notch with a fun cast of classic villains such as Rhino, Mysterio, Vulture and Shocker along with the film's version of Doc Ock. Slightly deviating from the film's plot to deliver some extra goods, the game has near endless replay value.
Best of all is the groundbreaking web-slinging mechanic, a more realistic tool that forced Peter to shoot his webs at actual buildings rather than the sky.
Far more in line with the exhilarating movements through the city Spider-Man does in the movies, this was the cherry on top of a perfect game that still holds up almost 20 years later.
