9. Little Big Planet - Qur'an Quotes

Little Big Planet definitely isn't the first game you'd expect to cause an uproar, unless you have some kind of intense loathing of coarsely-woven crochet (which has you livid whenever you see one of those little lady doily-dressed toilet paper holders).

And yet, it was actually a short while after its original release before any controversy unearthed, but a significant one caused by an apparent oversight by the development team.

In the level "Swinging Safari", the level actually contains the Arabic vocals, which translate to "...every soul shall have the taste of death... all that is on earth will perish". Yikes-aroonie. Not what you expect from a PEGI-3-rated game.

And yet, the content of the lyrics wasn't the biggest issue - these are actually words taken directly from the Qur'an, the Islamic religious texts. Given how religious prejudices had once again begin to grow against the Islamic faith in the United States around that time, this was taken as an insult, with one gamer noting, "We Muslims consider the mixing of music and words from our Holy Quran deeply offending."

As a gesture of good faith (and with urgency), " the song, "Tapha Niang", was immediately altered to an instrumental-only version.
