8. Metal Gear Solid’s Psycho Mantis Owns Your Console
Very few video games bother to break the fourth wall. If the legendary Psycho Mantis boss fight is anything to go by, that’s probably a good thing. This guy sent those of us who played it for the first time utterly insane with his devious deceptions.
When battling this psychic soldier, he used every trick in the book to fool gamers – from making your controller rumble, to forcing you to pop the controller into the second port, to apparently shutting down your TV altogether.
But it went so much deeper than that, as with Mantis able to read your memory card, he could embarrass you about the number of saves you’d made up to that point, or even tell which other games you enjoyed playing. To get around it, you'd have to physically plug your controller into the next port on the machine - a truly weird way to win the fight.
