10 Video Games Most Likely To Be Game Of The Year 2017 Nominees

4. PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds

Horizon Zero Dawn
Bluehole

Format - PC, Xbox One

Metacritic Score - N/A

This is a bit of a weird one. PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, which will now be referred to as PUBG, isn't officially out - it's still in early access. Yet that hasn't stopped the entire gaming industry going crazy talking about it.

Within seven months, the game had sold thirteen million copies and had a peak concurrent player count of over two million. If you even remotely care about statistics, you'll understand that those are pretty impressive. But statistics don't make a game great - the reason PUBG is so immensely popular is because it's helped to popularise the battle royale genre, which is already seeing expansion through games like Fortnite: Battle Royale.

The premise is simple and yet gripping. 100 players land on a single map and scavenge for items and weapons - last man standing wins it all. Although the game isn't officially out yet, it is due for release on Windows and Xbox One in 2017, and there is talk of the game eventually coming to PlayStation at some point in the future.
