10 Video Games Most Likely To Be Game Of The Year 2017 Nominees

2. Super Mario Odyssey

Horizon Zero Dawn
Nintendo

Format - Nintendo Switch

Metacritic Score - TBD

The final game on this list to be released in any shape or form, Super Mario Odyssey has the momentous task of following one of Nintendo's best games in years (more on that to come). Luckily, everyone's favourite plumber has never been one to shy away from a challenge.

Super Mario Odyssey returns to the sandbox style of Super Mario 64 and Sunshine, something fans have been clamouring for since...well, those games. Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 were masterpieces in their own right, but Odyssey looks to return to a time of exploration and wonder.

Armed with his newest pal, Cappy, Mario is able to capture all kinds of enemies and objects in the game worlds and control them freely. This is Mario both as you love him and as he's never been before, traversing enormously varied and fantastically designed Kingdoms in the quest to save Peach.

Super Mario Odyssey promises to be the spiritual successor to Super Mario 64 that never quite happened before. If that 10/10 from Edge is anything to go by, then it looks like there's a solid chance Nintendo will be fighting itself for Game of the Year.
