Evolve is a 2015 shooter made by TurtleRock Studios. In each level, you take control of one of five players; four playing as the hunters and one playing as the monster. At first, many players assumed TurtleRock Studios copied the mechanics of the game, Left 4 Dead, which some of the developers worked on.

However, the main designers, Phil Robb and Chris Ashton, said it was a bit more complicated than that. The designers loved the film, Predator, and wished there was an action game where hunting was just as important as fighting. After looking at hunting games, they drew inspiration from the Deer Hunter and Cabela's Big Game Hunter series.

These franchises had a reputation as they were among the few games where the prey can attack you. Although this is a simple mechanic, it was at a core concept while Robb and Ashton were programming Evolve.

If you played these games back-to-back, you would never guess Deer Hunter and Cabela were the main inspirations for Evolve. Many company's deny drawing inspiration from other games in case they get sued, even if it is blatantly obvious their own property is a complete knockoff.

Case in point...
