10 Video Games That Are Perfect For Movie Lovers

4. The Mass Effect Trilogy

If You Like... Star Wars, Star Trek Commander Shepard is given a test on Eden Prime to see if he can become the first human Spectre, an elite special agent for a galactic government. Eden Prime holds a secret artifact known as a Prothean Beacon. The Protheans were an ancient race of aliens that discovered interstellar travel and their technology is the basis of all modern civilization in 2183. Shepard is accompanied by Nihlus, a Spectre who wishes to retrieve the beacon before it's taken into the wrong hands. Unbeknownst to Nihlus, a fellow Spectre Saren is also in pursuit of the beacon. Saren attacks Shepard's party and touches the beacon, then makes an escape in his ship. After battling Seren's forces, Shepard himself touches the beacon and is given a vision. The vision is of war between synthetic beings on an apocalyptic scale. Commander Shepard seeks to understand the vision and pursues Saren to discover why the Spectre wished to commune with the Prothean Beacon. This is just the beginning to a vast science-fiction epic. Mass Effect lives up to the term epic in several different ways. The first is the narrative, which is as detailed as several novels. The universe of Mass Effect is fully-realized with a complex back story that can be experienced in the game by reading recorded histories and conversing with others while traveling the galaxy. Mass Effect is also epic in its cinematic presentation of scale. The creators of the game intentionally wanted to create an interactive film, and they succeeded. Because of this, cinematic techniques are used to great effect - as much as they were in 20o9's re-imagining of Star Trek, to make a comparison. You will frequently find yourself in awe of the sheer scale of what is occurring around you as Shepard become a direct participant of galactic warfare. Relationships are also given special attention, and all of the supporting characters have unique personalities. The more time you spend with the supporting cast, the more you bond with them, which impacts the outcome of the game on the whole. Sometimes the game forces you to make hard choices to resolve conflicts between your crew mates that might have devastating effects later in the game if you do not take the time to make careful choices. Of course, certain deaths can't be avoided and when a main character dies in the game it's all the more heart-breaking because of the amount of time you spent developing relationships with them. Overall, Mass Effect is one of the most cinematic gaming experiences available. The game excels in making you feel like the main character in a grand science-fiction epic such as Star Wars or Star Trek. It's an amazing experience that anyone who has even dabbled in video games should try at least once.
