10 Video Games That Don’t Deserve Their Masterpiece Status

1. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Let me start by saying that subjectively, I love Skyrim. As an Elder Scrolls fan it was such a great addition to the series, and one that consumed large portions of my life over the winter of 2011/12.

It's far from perfect, however, and there's a lot keeping it from being that, despite what the biggest Bethesda devotees may say. Featuring a combat system that makes your hero look like they're swinging a bag of bricks rather than a sword or axe, the physics are maddeningly inaccurate, with horses apparently having the strength to climb vertical slopes, and the enemy AI being laughably bad throughout.

There are also the famous 'Bethesda Bugs' to consider. Skyrim's bugs have somehow become one of the idiosyncrasies that fans have grown to love - or at least tolerate. Critically speaking, however, they represent a broken game, and one that - as much as I'd like it to be - can't be considered a masterpiece for that alone.
