4. Player Unknown's Battlegrounds
From one massively popular title to another, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds has seen equally massive success in the PC space and beyond, its playerbase skyrocketing in the years following its 2017 release. Pitting one hundred avatars together in a tense fight to the death, only a select portion would become true masters of the title, ruthlessly punishing new players foolish enough to challenge them for that elusive "Winner, winner, chicken dinner". Of course, being an early access title that grew slowly over time, this progenitor of the battle royale craze wasn't lending a helping hand to players struggling to compete in an ever-growing skill-gap.
Some kind of practice mode against bots would have been appreciated, but Bluehole Studio, maligned by other controversies such as attempting to trademark the entire battle royale genre, has avoided providing this feature. In 2018 when PUBG came to mobile, a lightweight tutorial was finally added in the bottom right corner of player's phone screens, something likely brought in to make the game more accessible to that platform's more casual audience. Even with this addition, the game remains a tough challenge for new starters. For other formats, the community has scraped by with online articles, YouTube walkthroughs and online discussions.
