10 Video Games That Only Work ONCE

1. Death Stranding

And here it is: the divisive game that just keeps on giving discourse. Death Stranding, 2019's offering from Kojima's new studio, still remains a hot topic about narrative, graphics, "boring gameplay" and whatever petty argument the fans/critics will defend or throw at it, respectively.

Whichever camp you fall into, one thing can be agreed on: Death Stranding is quite boring on a second playthrough.

When players first explore the lands of ravaged pseudo-America, the visuals alone are breathtaking (even more so in the PS5) version. Coupled with a beautifully haunting score, it's an absolute trip to well, take this trip.

As is the story, which is "peak Kojima". It's bizarre, it doesn't make sense without a wiki, and will probably have players asking more questions than they have answers to. But, it is engaging.

The same can't be said when starting again, as the sentiment and motivation of each character holds no real weight any more. We know Higgs is the weird pizza customer, we know Hardman is responsible for Sam's existence (sort of, it's complicated).

Trudging through knee-deep snow doesn't feel worth it when we already know the ending is a lacklustre payoff.

(and that "Princess Beach" bit doesn't need to be seen again)
