6. Chrono Cross

Metal Gear Solid V
Square Enix

Square Enix's Chrono Cross is a fantastic game featuring a unique battle system, a complex story, and one of the best damn soundtracks of all time. Unfortunately, it's also a sequel to one of the SNES's most beloved games - Chrono Trigger.

The world and characters of Chrono Trigger made an indelible impact on young gamers, so when the sequel featured an entirely new cast - with seemingly no direct connection to the original game - things were off to a bad start.

Worse, however, was the reveal that those connections actually did exist - insofar as those iconic characters mostly having met tragic, mundane ends. Except one: Schala - a major character whose actions directly contributed to setting the entire saga in motion. At the end of Trigger she's lost in time and team badass Magus - her brother - leaves to find her.

So... where is he? Magus was meant to appear in Cross, but was cut in favor of the game's other party members, many of whom are insignificant to the story. Most would argue that it's impossible to continue Schala's story without Magus - and they'd be right. His absence undercuts the entire idea of a Chrono Trigger sequel.
