10 Video Games That Should Become Films
Brought to you by IWantCheats.net.
More so than ever, modern games provide us with an unprecedented level of interactive entertainment, with a good story and narrative engagement becoming a vital part of a modern title's success. A prime example of this can be seen in the recent Walking Dead franchise from Telltale Games, taking inspiration from Robert Kirkman's comics of the same name. These titles mimicked the episodic nature of the comics by being released in instalments, but what sets The Walking Dead and other similar titles such as The Wolf Among Us or Game of Thrones (also from Telltale) apart, is the emphasis on story and character development. The choices you make as a character (from what you say, see and do) have a direct impact on what follows on from these moments. Its clear games are now on a par with other mediums when it comes to portraying such stories, but can it work the other way? Can film learn a thing or two from the newest kids on the block? There have been film adaptations of popular games in the past (Silent Hill, Resident Evil, Tomb Raider to name three), but they all failed to rekindle the emotional connection first seen and felt in their original works. Perhaps the aforementioned titles weren't the best candidates for translation to the big screen though? Over the past 20 years especially we've seen rich worlds, characters and narratives that could all provide the perfect opportunity for silver screen adaptation. I Want Cheats have created a list of their top ten games that would work perfectly, and you should let us know what your own selections would be in the comments below.
