It would be impossible to talk about fan backlash without mentioning the controversy and anger that came alongside the release of Cyberpunk 2077.

Following the overwhelming success of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, expectations for the studio’s upcoming game was set to an exceptionally high level.

Over the coming years, the details dropped about the game promised excited fans an expansive world where choice and customisation where at the core of the experience. The inclusion of Keanu Reeves only added to the growing excitement whilst initial PC reviews prior to the long-delayed launch praised what the team had accomplished.

But this was when everything turned sour.

The game’s launched was marred by more than game-breaking bugs and atrocious performances. Alongside purposely hiding console versions of the game from reviewers, reports also surfaced about months of crunch time from developers resulted in an outcry from irate fans displeased with the studio’s handling of the game.

The game was likewise removed from the PlayStation Store while some retailers stopped pre-orders due to its atrocious performance. CD Projket RED’s shares subsequently took a massive blow.

Though now in the state it should have launched in, it'll take more than patches to salvage this disaster for some.
