10 Video Games You Were Ready To Hate

8. The Last Of Us Part I

Saints Row
Naughty Dog

When developer Naughty Dog announced in 2022 that they had been working on a remake of their iconic game The Last Of Us, rebuilding it from the ground up to match the visual quality of its sequel, the gaming industry's response was generally: Why? After all, the original was less than a decade old, and had received an exceptional remaster for PS4 that still held up genuinely well on next-generation consoles.

People were certainly sceptical, but the hate really began when the remake’s price tag was leaked: £70. For a game many of us had already bought twice previously, with reportedly no quality of life improvements or gameplay additions other than a massive facelift? Get out.

Considering that The Last Of Us Part II very nearly made this list itself thanks to the general pre-release perception that it didn’t need a sequel, gamers were even more pissed about this one.

The hate did die down somewhat upon release, as the remake arguably is the definitive way to play the story, especially on modern hardware, but the price definitely still rankles. We’ll wait for a sale, thanks.
