10 Well-Known Gaming 'Facts' That Are Actually Bulls**t
6. Yoshi Was Rideable In Mario 64
Rather like the Luigi rumour (that was actually a GameShark-powered skin-swap in reality), Mario 64 didn't let you control anyone - or any thing - other than Mario himself. Still, that didn't stop people proclaiming that if you had enough lives, visited certain statues in a certain order or simply stood still for a certain amount of time - that Yoshi would come riding out the ether to carry you away. Understandably, even though it's already been mentioned Mario wasn't really the first 3D platformer, it always felt like a vast world of endless possibilities to the gamer of 1996. Sadly the only way people could produce screenshots like those above (in an age without widespread availability of such things, meaning word of mouth ruled all) was down to third-party add-on devices hacking the game's code to literally mash-up Mario's character model with a variety of Yoshis from other games.
