10 Worst Non-Signature Abilities In Pokémon Games

9. Moody

Yet another exclusively-hidden ability, Moody sharply boosts one random stat while lowering another random stat after every turn. The problem with this ability is...well, just that.

While random stat changes can work to one's benefit, they can also be detrimental to one's chances of winning. For example, if the Pokémon's Attack gets higher but its Defense gets lower, then its Special Attack increases but its Speed decreases, it is now more vulnerable to physical attacks. It's like using Acupressure or Metronome - it might be fun, but it's not really a safe thing to do in battle.

However, this didn't stop Moody from being banned from competitive play in 2011.

Prior to the ban, players would regularly enter the field with a Moody Bibarel and watch as it boosted its Evasion, boosted its Attack, and took down any deity or beast that laid in its path. So, while the ability was unreliable, it also had the potential to turn a Pokémon into an un-hittable killing machine.

Though it's hilarious to imagine a Bidoof making easy work out of an Arceus, this is not always the case for Moody Pokémon, who can be met with a swift demise as easily as they can achieve glory.
