Based on the real-life military dictator of Panama, Manuel Noriega is a [REDACTED] who [REDACTED] more than once.
This power-mad Panamanian, nicknamed ‘Old Pineapple Face’ for obvious reasons (i.e. he has a face like a pineapple), is shown to be a vicious double-dealing dictator. Starting out siding with the CIA to capture political outcast Raul Menendez, he double-crosses them and switches allegiance to Menendez – who returns the favour by damn near beating him to death. The Yanks take the double-cross as well as you’d expect, sending our heroes out to capture Noriega, before they uncaptured him in a poorly planned prisoner exchange.
In a desperate last stand, Noriega initiates a sit-com-like plan, kidnapping secondary character Alex Mason. You know what, mate, just pop a bag on his head to convince Mason’s partner that it’s Menendez under the hood, and so should be shot. Well, it almost worked in Blackadder, so…
Out in the real world, Noriega sued Activision in 2014 for using his likeness and portraying him as a villain without cutting him in on the profits. He did this while in prison for murder. Classy.
