10 Worst Possible Alternative Video Game Endings
5. The House Of The Dead - Zombie Fiance
The first House of the Dead is an arcade rail shooter first released in 1997. Arcade games aren’t exactly known for having extensive storylines, though House of the Dead had some thin strands to it. An obsessive scientist goes insane and his experiments result in scores of various undead enemies overrunning his home and laboratory.
Later that year, AMS Agent Thomas Rogan is called to the scene by his fiancée Sophie, and he travels there to save her and the other scientists from harm. After battling scores of the undead, Thomas and his partner G reach Sophie, but she is mortally wounded, and seemingly succumbs to her injuries.
At the end of the game, after purging the mansion of all the nasty beasties within it, depending on your ending score, Sophie could be seen running towards you happily, alive and well, she could be missing, presumed dead, or she could approach you, completely zombified!
If you earn over 62,000 points, Sophie will thank you for your hard work and presumably the two of you live happily ever after. Earning fewer than 62,000 gives you a bleak ending with an empty house, and no happy fiancée. However, if players manage to finish with fewer than 62,000 points and have their score ending in a zero, then they’ll get the worst possible ending, and nab themselves a zombie bride.
Finishing with a score ending in zero also includes never using a continue, a feat even more difficult to earn than the good ending! And for what?! Pure nightmares when we were kids, that’s what. Loved it.
