10 Worst Things Warner Bros. Games Have EVER Done

8. Forgetting Batman: Arkham Origins

Worst Things Warner Bros. Has Done
Warner Bros.

The Batman: Arkham series is the crowning jewel in Warner's gaming roster, delivering quality experiences from inception in 2009 with Batman: Arkham Asylum through to 2015's closing chapter, Batman: Arkham Knight. Managing on each occasion to up the ante, build the universe and introduce exciting new gadgets and techniques, Warner and Rocksteady made one of the most successful game series of the last couple of decades, rooted in a strong IP, innovative combat system and impressive execution.

However, they almost derailed the whole thing in 2013 with Batman Arkham: Origins, a prequel set years before the first game, and the only game of the series not to be led by Rocksteady (who were busy on Arkham Knight).

While the story was exciting, featuring a gang war between Bane and the Joker, and it continued to expand the game’s world, Origins was marred by technical issues from day one - perhaps a consequence of a truncated development cycle and releasing on outmoded console hardware, with versions developed for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but not the newly released PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Save files were corrupted, the game crashed and froze, and various other bugs made the game at times literally unplayable.

But while Warner initially went to work setting things right, just five months after launch they announced they would no longer be releasing additional patches or bug fixes, abandoning the player base and turning their attention solely to upcoming DLC. A bellwether for things to come, this feels attuned to the approach the company would take to their games - and players - in the years post-Arkham Knight, including overlooking Origins for a remaster altogether.
