Over the years, many side-scrollers have attempted to replicate the Mega Man franchise, often with little success.

But when Comcept revealed Mighty No. 9, it looked like this crowdedfunded project could be a true spiritual successor of the Blue Bomber. Not only did this platformer perfectly nail the look and feel of Capcom's iconic series, the creator of the original Mega Man, Kenji Inafune, was helming the project. Fans were so hyped, Mighty No. 9 received quadruple the funding it asked for on Kickstarter.

Sadly, all that excitement was obliterated the instant the trailer was released. Although the gameplay looked decent, the presentation was undercut by a snarky narrator who can't stop churning out dated jokes.

This teaser's most infamous moment is when the narrator says the hero will "make the bad guys cry like an anime fan on prom night". Not only is this an unfunny gag, it's extra inappropriate since many Mega Man fans love anime.

Do you know why? Because Mega Man was inspired by a manga and anime character, Astro Boy!!
