100 Things You Never Knew About Resident Evil

96. Walk It Off

Resident Evil Snoop Dogg
Capcom

One of the earliest moments in Resident Evil 2 remake sees the player discovering surviving RPD officer Elliot Edward panicking behind a metal shutter. In an impressive display of the wet, grotesque power of the RE Engine, Leon/Claire pull Elliot out to what they think is safety. However, they're left with only half an Elliot as he splits in two. Gross.

However, Japan is quite strict about the kinds and amounts of gore that their games can show and so lots of horror titles get multiple releases. The CERO D rating tends to be more censored than the CERO Z version (games of these ratings actually require a credit card to purchase as proof of being 18+) but sometimes both are hit by cuts.

That's absolutely the case here, where even in the least censored of the two the scene is still altered so that Officer Edward comes out in one piece but dies anyway. This means that when the player returns, instead of Zombie Elliot crawling around without any legs, he's actually risen back to his feet.

Nice to see you too, officer.
