97. RE4’s Calls Work In a Surprising Way

There's nothing like breaking a game's camera to find some weird surprises and one example of that is the call system in the original Resident Evil 4.

You've probably never thought about the fact that these aren't pre-rendered and are, in fact, done in engine which of course means this isn't as flat of an image as it first appears. YouTuber Shesez's show Boundary Break revealed a few years ago that the characters involved in the call have full character models and are simply placed in a black void with the call frame put over the top of them.

By modding the PC version to move the camera during these scenes, we can see that Hunnigan - who usually only appears within this small frame - has a full character model.
