100 Things You Never Knew About Resident Evil
44. The Floating Head
One last thing on the RE2 demo...
Perhaps the most interesting change takes place in the infamous Licker corridor. After walking past the decapitated body, Leon stops at the ominous pool of blood. As he crouches down to inspect it, a head falls from the ceiling. Instead of the Licker cutscene playing - possibly because it hadn't been finished yet - the creature drops down in front of Leon and control is given back to the player. It's quite startling if you're used to the final product.
It's possible that the head drop was removed entirely because decaps in video games are a quick way to more adult ratings, censorship or even banning in some places. However, that's not to say that the head is totally missing from the final release.
By using a camera break mod, fans discovered that the head is still hidden in the ceiling. It's actually where the blood drip is coming from. Now, every time you walk down the Licker corridor, you'll know that the creature's snack is still up there, just out of sight.
