11 Terrifyingly Iconic Horror Video Game Characters

2. Pyramid Head (Silent Hill 2)

Many remember the various encounters with Silent Hill€™s most iconic villain as the first time they were genuinely scared by a video game, and due to his zombielike movement, surrealist look, and ability to have any of the other demons in the game for breakfast, they€™d not be wrong. The original Silent Hill was a masterclass in atmosphere construction, one that was predicated on a liberal dousing of fog that flowed through the streets of the town you found yourself in. Even if the fog was a technical limitation at the time, it became one of the many signature staples of the series, alongside some very Japanese-looking enemy designs, one of the most recognisable being the games€™ demonic nurse characters. Back to Vector Chops though, the introduction of which was a mix of confusion as to what he was meant to be, and whose side he was on. Being that through the game he€™s seen engaging in evermore-disgustingly debaucherous acts with the other demons, his position within the Silent Hill canon became one of the biggest draws to the franchise, even factoring into the first film-adaptation where he nonchalantly proceeded to rip the skin off one of the characters with one hand. Lovely stuff.
