2. Pyramid Head (Silent Hill 2)

Ill bet you were waiting for old Temple Noggin to show his lack-of-a-face. Many remember the various encounters with Silent Hills most iconic villain as the first time they were genuinely scared by a video game, and due to his zombielike movement, surrealist look, and ability to have any of the other demons in the game for breakfast, theyd not be wrong. The original Silent Hill was a masterclass in atmosphere construction, one that was predicated on a liberal dousing of fog that flowed through the streets of the town you found yourself in. Even if the fog was a technical limitation at the time, it became one of the many signature staples of the series, alongside some very Japanese-looking enemy designs, one of the most recognisable being the games demonic nurse characters. Back to Vector Chops though, the introduction of which was a mix of confusion as to what he was meant to be, and whose side he was on. Being that through the game hes seen engaging in evermore-disgustingly debaucherous acts with the other demons, his position within the Silent Hill canon became one of the biggest draws to the franchise, even factoring into the first film-adaptation where he nonchalantly proceeded to rip the skin off one of the characters with one hand. Lovely stuff.
