1. Nemesis (Resident Evil 3: Nemesis)

Now then, for many, Pyramid Head cannot be beat just out of sheer disturbing imagery and love for his part in the twisted dark fairytale that is Silent Hill 2. However, it was with Nemesis that my first rush of genuine fright first occurred. The divide between what will scare or affect you more is perfectly summed up by comparing the likes of Pyramid Head and Nemesis. The former represents something of the unknown; his intentions, his potential power, and his overall stature harbouring untapped potential for your undoing. Nemesis on the other hand, is a 7ft tall walking stack of muscle and determination. He will pursue you until the ends of the earth, possessing a frame so built to withstand anything you can throw, his sporadic drop-ins at random intervals ushered in the most frantic stabbing of the run button Ive ever performed. Resident Evil 3 would offer up time-sensitive events whenever Nemesis had you hemmed into a particular dead-end or otherwise-enclosed space, infinitely ramping up the tension, as without knowing the outcome you opted to sprint one way or another. More capable of testing the working capabilities of the human nervous system than a full body scan, Nemesis both in name and actuality was the embodiment of fear itself; the semi-quantifiable entity that cannot be stopped, wishing all the while to have nothing more than your blood on its hands. Any suggestions spring to mind that havent been included in this blood-soaked list of scares and rear-end-rupturing scares? Whack em down in the comment section below and lets all be glad we made it through in one piece. Happy Halloween everyone!
