You all knew that Big Daddy Kratos was going to be at the top of this list.

The original God of War was a landmark for the Playstation 3. The combat was brutal. The Chaos Blades were hands down the coolest weapon we'd seen in ages, the boss fights were astounding, with them often being literally colossal in nature. Simply put, every single moment of the series was spectacular...we don't talk about the Aphrodite scene okay?

Cory Barlog confirmed in 2014 that another game was in development but...it's safe to say that no one expected this.

Remember when I said the Chaos Blades were the coolest weapon ever? They're nothing compared to the Leviathan Axe. There was something so satisfying to throwing and recalling this axe; feeling the weight of the thing through your controller.

This really lent itself to combat as well, which felt both brutal and heavy, whilst being utterly fluid. That, and the game looked stunning from start to finish.

That's not to mention the story. God of War was never known for high emotion, but this iteration gave us a sombre, beautiful story of father and son, and much of this is down to the more vulnerable Kratos at the centre of it all.
