4. Li Mei

Native to the realm of Outworld, Li Mei resided in a quaint little village which just happened to nest a relic portal to the heavens. Once the Deadly Alliance had been formed, Shang Tsung and Quan Chi enslaved the village folk and ordered them to construct an ornate palace for where the undefeatable army of the Dragon King could be housed and the portal cast open. Li Mei rebelled and Quan Chi was impressed with her warrior spirit, offering her a chance to free her people by competing in a staged tournament. Failure however, would result in her and the inhabitants of the village serving them for eternity. She wins the tournament, only to be deceived and have her soul be transplanted into one of the mummified soldiers. Bo Rai Cho manages to interrupt the process and save her soul from eternal servitude, but a small taint from the encounter was left within her. This would later materialise by her siding with Onaga and thwarting the heroes. She became the first fatality in the opening cinematic in Armageddon, being impaled by Hotaru's Naga staff. Being no stranger to wearing skimpy alternate outfits, her sex-appeal was later calmed down in Deception, with her primary outfit being more armoured and battle ready, but still retaining the gung-ho stripper attire for her second costume. Her move-set has remained consistent throughout, sparkly projectiles and impossible body-contorting cartwheels. The groundwork for a unique play-style already exists, a little more finesse and acrobatics could set her apart from the other females. The inner conflict she has acquired from her botched soul transplantation could be the driving force for her to become an exemplary wildcard in a future instalment.
