12 Gaming Predictions For The Rest Of 2017
5. Knack II Gets 80+ On Metacritic (But Nobody Buys It)
The Prediction: Knack II will end up as one of the most-improved video game sequels in recent years, scoring an 80+ Metascore compared to the original game's rather unfortunate 54...but nobody will buy it.
Why It Will Happen: The fact that a sequel to the critically-dismissed platformer even exists is proof enough that director Mark Cerny must've had one Hell of a pitch to capture Sony's imagination. What's been shown off so far looks surprisingly fun, a sentiment echoed by most of the press outlets who got to play the game at E3, providing convincing evidence that it'll be a solid improvement on the original.
But the fact it's dropping so soon with so little hype doesn't speak well to its sales prospects, so even with a sub-AAA price point, it could easily tank.
Why It Might Not: The press have of course only played a small slice of the game so far, and there's no guarantee that this quality holds over its remainder Alternatively, it could simply end up a mild evolution of the first game and score in the underwhelming 65-70 region, which would still be a step up, but not nearly enough to fully restore the IP's reputation.
And as for sales? Well, the lower price tag could certainly make it more appealing to those who skipped out on the first game.
