12 Hugely Delayed Video Games (That Ended Up Sucking)
7. Galleon: Islands of Mystery
The Delay: Galleon was announced by Edge magazine way back in 1997, and instantly became one of the most anticipated games of the late 90s. It has become infamous for flirting with pretty much any console that would listen, initially starting out life as a PlayStation title before being ported to the Dreamcast. Then the game ended up being developed for the GameCube for release in 2002, with an Xbox port to follow later in the year. In the end, it had a sole Xbox release 7 years after development began, in the summer of 2004. The Result: With its completely ridiculous production schedule, it's unsurprising that nobody cared enough to buy the game. More to the point, it just wasn't very good. Though it boasted a high degree of exploration, the graphics were horrifically dated even, and much like the earlier Tomb Raider games (also designed by Toby Gard), the controls were not particularly intuitive, making for a frustrating experience. Combat on the other hand was just painful. This might have passed muster in the late 90s, but given when the game eventually came out, it wasn't up to standard.
