After three enormously acclaimed Thief games, there was justifiable worry that the 2014 reboot of the franchise might just result in a limp, watered down final product attempting to cater to more casual players for the sake of money. As it turns out, these worries were right on the money. This is by far the easiest and most accessible of the Thief games, playing out its simplified stealth mechanics (namely some hilariously dopey AI) such that even the worst stealth gamer could blast through the campaign in 7 or 8 hours. In addition, the game feels far too linear, the map design is clunky at best, and even with the myriad difficulty options available, it just doesn't feel cunning and challenging enough. Though it no doubt exposed the Thief IP to a wider audience, it was at the expense of the franchise's soul, leaving a sour taste in the mouth of any fan who stuck with it since the beginning.
