13 Most Anticipated 2021 Video Games Ranked - Did They Live Up To The Hype?
4. Monster Hunter Rise
When the Monster Hunter Rise demo came out at the start of the year, many websites (WhatCulture included) predicted that the latest entry in Capcom's venerable monster-slaying series would be the best one yet.
Spoiler alert: It is.
Monster Hunter Rise is a fantastic upgrade from the already-excellent Monster Hunter World. As well as boasting arguably the best graphics on the Switch, Rise features the most dynamic, exciting battles in the series to date thanks to the addition of wirebugs.
Wirebugs are short ranged grappling hooks that propel your protagonist across the land and onto vulnerable monster's backs, and are legitimate game changers for the franchise. Once you've sampled the delights of zipping through the world and mounting a monster to make it do your bidding, it's hard to go back to the older entries in the series. (Especially when you use the Switch's gyro controls to pretend you're a Spider-Man variant who specialises in Wyvern-slaying).
Monster Hunter Rise is the most accessible, most engaging and most enjoyable Monster Hunter yet made, and is the undisputed crown jewel in an already great series.
All that and you can ride your pet dog into battle too.
